Some of Kefalonia’s best beaches are on the Paliki. Here are a few of my favourites.
Petani is a magnificent beach located at a distance of 10 km from the villa, in the north of Paliki. It has crystal blue water and is set in a stunning landscape of huge verdant cliffs.
The beach is covered mostly with sand and some pebbles scattered along the shore. Close to the beach are a couple of tavernas. The beach is well organized with umbrellas and sundecks. Shower and toilet facilities are available.
Atheras beach (30 minute drive)
Atheras beach is located at a distance of 22 km from the villa, in the north of Paliki. The route follows Atheras gorge, with lush vegetation. It is a quiet beach, ideal for children. It also has an amazing views, while its crystal clear waters along with the gentle ripple form a lovely landscape. Here you will find the small marina of Porto Atheras and the chapel of Saint Spiridon. There is a traditional beach tavernas on the beach, and a fish restaurant nearby.
Lepeda Beach (15 minute drive)
This beach is located at a distance of 8 km from the villa, south of Lixouri. It is an ideal resort centre with amazing reddish-orange sand and clear waters. It is about 200 meters in length and quiet, making it ideal for families with children and lone travellers. The scenery is fantastic with peculiar rock formations and is completed by the magnificent view of the Gulf of Argostoli, the Agioi Theodoroi Lighthouse and Mount Enos
Xi Beach is located at a distance of 10 km from the villa, south of Lixouri. Xi is renowned for its soft, red sand. It is a Blue Flag beach. The sand slopes reasonably gently so that one can go out a distance from the shoreline. The areas of the beach that are close to hotels are developed and organised with beach loungers and sun shades. Areas that are away from amenities present a more natural aspect.
At the end of the roads, car parking is located on-road or in car parks linked with tavernas. This can be crowded at the height of the tourist season.
Vatsa beach is located 9 km from Lixouri and 5 km from Xi beach. It is a little untouched sandy bay with shallow waters and a small river which merges into the sea and can easily be crossed by a pontoon bridge, a great game for kids!
The beach is partly organized and there is a nice taverna on the beach as well as boat rental services
Megas Lakkos is about 20 minute drive. This beach is not as developed as Xi beach, but has the benefit of being a long clean beach with red sand. Its shallow waters make it ideal for a family. There is 1 taverna here called Fishbones, which is fine
Lagkadakia beach (10 minute drive)
Lagkadakia is a small shingle beach which has a feeling of the wild about it. It is located about 6 km south of the villa. There are limited facilities at the beach but for those wanting a quiet cove for swimming and sunbathing this is worth a look. Most of the visitors are locals who know the best places on the peninsula. The water here is crystal clear, ideal for snorkelling.
One certainly worth a visit is Myrtos beach - used in most advertising material and presented as one of the best on the island. It is under an hour to drive to and depending when in the year you visit you may have to leave your car and walk down to the beach.
It does get busy in peak summer months, but it’s a great place to visit and swim. There are many facilities available on the beach from tavernas, water sports, sun beds and umbrellas, plus shower and toilets.
